It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since I wrote my blog post detailing my first experience at the ASCA conference!
I’m gearing up to attend this year’s conference too and I’m just as excited as I was last year.
Here’s a recap of last year’s blog post and the super phenomenal amazing fun engaging and exciting things I learned at the ASCA National Conference:
- Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone: I was nervous about attending the ASCA National Conference alone, but it turned out to be an incredible experience. It reminded me how important it is to step out of our comfort zones for personal and professional growth.
- Building a Sense of Community: The conference was a fantastic way to connect with other school counselors who share the same interests and challenges. I made new friends and felt a real sense of community.
- Wide Range of Opportunities: There were so many great sessions and activities, from equity advocacy to small group counseling and career fairs. Just a tip: don’t over-schedule yourself like I did. Take some time for self-care!
- Valuable Learning Experiences: I learned so much from the keynote speeches and various sessions. I picked up new career counseling tactics, mindfulness practices, and ways to support marginalized groups. These will definitely help me in my work.
- Encouragement to Attend Conferences: If you ever get the chance to attend the ASCA conference, go for it! It’s a great way to stay current and connect with other counselors. Plus, there’s always the option of attending virtually if you can’t make it in person.
- More Pro Tips!
- Bring a backpack-there’s LOTS of vendors, goodies, and freebies on the conference floor.
- Leave space in your suitcase to bring home all of your goodies.
- But tickets for the night out. I didn’t last year in Atlanta and I regret it!
- Book one of the suggested hotels-there will be a shuttle for you, and all of the hotels are close to the conference location.
If you can’t make it to this year’s conference, there’s a virtual option available at the ASCA website (schoolcounselor.org).
There’s also an amazing opportunity to learn from another virtual school counselor conference from the comfort of your home. This school counselor conference has a robust line up of skilled leaders in the school counseling world. I am VERY excited to attend this virtual conference. Won’t you join me?
