Woohoo! Winter Break is here! A time for some much needed rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation! Ahhhhh, can’t you just feel the joy as you awaken and turn right back over to go back to sleep?! Sounds divine! But as much as I would like to think that I’ll spend the next 2 weeks laying around, sipping my favorite wine with my feet up, I just know that is not true. I am a doer. A goal digger. A busy body. I have to be DOING something in order to feel fulfilled and productive. The counselor part of me knows that this is not good. Especially now. Covid really stinks in that way.
However, I know that I feel the effects of cabin fever, less sunlight, and missing my friends and colleagues. So what’s a gal to do? On the one hand I feel like, “Why lie to myself and pretend that I’ll relax”? And on the other hand I feel like, “If I don’t relax, I’ll eventually pay for it.”
So I’ve come up with an awesome compromise–for myself. I want to share it with you because maybe it will work for you too.
So, I will do. Doing is what I do. Doing is in my nature. I will work on this website….. a little. I will continue to workout….a little. I will create my resources…..maybe just one. I will make sure my customers have their orders on time. I will lay in bed and sip wine with my feet up, a little. I will strike a balance that keeps my busybody brain occupied, yet includes self care.
Strike a compromise with yourself. What do you have to do that can probably wait a little while? Do some of it. What self care do you look forward to? Do some of that too. That all or nothing ideal is rooted in perfectionism and that, my loves, is the stuff of disappointment and stress.
With our new compromised plan, we’re setting ourselves up for success! You see, we’ll be “self caring”, and being productive too.
Have a lovely, lovely day!
And PS-If you’re reading this like, MONTHS after winter break, consider striking a compromise with yourself in whatever moment you find yourself in. And let me know how it works for you. You deserve it.
